Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack returned to the Bayshore after a week away to meet the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday night in a crucial game for the Western Conference standings. Igor Chibrikov returned to the lineup after a bout with the flu, with Head Coach Alan Letang opting to go with an 11F/7D set up. Nick Chenard received the start for the Attack and his counterpart in the Windsor net was Xavier Medina.

The Attack got out to a solid start in the first period, outshooting the Spitfires 6-1 through the first five minutes but unable to get anything past Medina in the Spitfires crease. After the first five minutes expired, the floodgates opened for a flurry of goals. First on the board was Logan LeSage. After being named the Midwest Division Academic Player of the Month with a 98.8% average, he found a pass from Brady Lyle and slapped the deflection above the outstretched glove of Medina to record his first career OHL goal. Less than a minute later, Ethan Burroughs started a great passing play that went to Sergey Popov before he sent it cross crease to Barret Kirwin. Kirwin made no mistake and buried his 22nd of the year to put the Attack up 2-0 seven minutes into the contest. A minute later, Luke Boka forced a turnover behind the Attack net, fed Curtis Douglas in front and he fired it into an empty cage to cut the Attack lead to one. Owen Sound continued the pressure and with under four minutes to play, Brady Lyle set up Adam McMaster with a bomb pass down the ice. McMaster skated it down, found a streaking Josh Samanski and Samanski roofed it for his 4th of the year and a 3-1 Attack lead. After one period of play, the home team led in shots 21-7.

Windsor came out in the second determined to get back into the game. They killed off the remainder of the Attack power play to start the first, and at the 2:17 mark Daniel D'Amico scored his 19th of the year off a rebound to pull the Spitfires back within one. Owen Sound weathered the offensive from Windsor and began to push back as the period progressed. After being awarded a power play past the halfway mark of the period, Carter Robertson found Popov alone on the dot and he wristed one through Medina to restore the two goal advantage. Under two minutes later, Samanski and McMaster teamed up for a glorious scoring chance that was denied by the Windsor goaltender, but Deni Goure found himself parked in the perfect position where he put in the rebound to put the Attack up 5-2. The Attack finished the period with the three goal lead while outshooting Windsor 34-22.

Heading into the third period, Owen Sound had a three goal lead they looked to maintain. Early on Adam McMaster earned his second power play of the game by taking another high stick to the face, this time it was of the four minute variety. The power play was partially negated with Owen Sound's first penalty of the game, but neither team was able to score on the 4 on 4. Windsor continued to neutralize the Attack's power play, killing the man advantage for the 5th time of the night but Owen Sound still found themselves up 5-2 with over 9 minutes to play. The power play unit went to work once again, this time Matthew Struthers found the top corner over Medina's shoulder to make it 6-2. With less than a minute to play in the game, Mark Woolley laid a big hit on Jean-Luc Foudy. It caused a bit of commotion and after a long delay both Joseph Rupoli and Woolley saw their nights come to an end. Owen Sound skated out the 6-2 victory over the Spitfires, outshooting the visitors 44-33.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Logan LeSage, who scored his first career OHL goal. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Nick Chenard (31 saves), Josh Samanski (1 goal, 1 assist) and Adam McMaster (2 assists).

The Owen Sound Attack hit the road next week with a pair of games in Niagara and Erie. Both games can be heard on 560 CFOS Bear Radio and streamed on OHLLive.com. The Niagara game will be available for viewing on Rogers Grey County Channel 53.
