Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA, CA - RF Ericson Leonora's RBI single gave the Visalia Rawhide a 6-5, 10-inning win over the Stockton Ports (15-18) at Recreation Ballpark on Thursday night.
After RHP Luis Ramirez (6-0, 2.93) pitched a scoreless tenth inning, stranding a runner on bae, the Rawhide went to work on RHP Rob Huber (0-1, 8.36) in the home half of the tenth. With one out, CF Colin Bray walked. He was pushed to second when PH Victor Reyes reached on an error charged to 1B John Nogowski. Leonora was the next hitter and he laced one into left field, scoring Bray just ahead of a wide throw from LF James Harris for the game winner and Visalia avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of Stockton 6-5 in extras.
In the seventh inning against RHP Kyle Finnegan and Stockton leading 5-3, LF Grant Heyman hit a double into the right-centerfield gap that scored 1B Cody Regis and SS Domingo Leyba to tie the game at 5-5 and setting up the Leonora heroics.
Bray knocked in two himself against the starter for Stockton, RHP Heath Fillmyer in the sixth inning to inch Visalia back into the ballgame. 3B Marty Herum, who singled, and 2B Henry Castillo, who struck out, but reached base safely on a passed ball, both scored on Bray's hit to make it a 5-3 Stockton lead.
Fillmyer pitched 5.1 innings, getting chased in the sixth by the Bray two-run single after allowing six hits, the three runs (two earned) and he struck out five.
RHP Josh Collmenter made his third rehab appearance for Visalia, allowing two runs in the second and three in the fourth. 2B Joe Bennie doubled to open the second inning and Nogoswki homered, his first of the year, to give Stockton a 2-0 lead.
Visalia scored their first run in the third against Fillmyer after a Bray triple, C Tyler Baker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
Stockton struck again in the fourth when RF Tyler Marincov reached on an error. Collmenter issued back-to-back walks and SS Mikey White drove in two with a single right before C Iolana Akua hit an RBI single to push it to 5-1.
Collmenter finished with four innings pitched, five runs allowed (four earned) on six hits, two walks and he struck out three.
RHP Nick Baker and RHP Bud Jeter pitched scoreless innings of relief to get the ball to Ramirez who eventually inked the win.
Visalia welcomes in the High Desert Mavericks tomorrow night for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch from Rawhide Ballpark. The Rawhide will send RHP Brad Keller (2-1, 3.65) to the mound against RHP Cole Wiper (2-0, 4.28) for the Mavericks.
