Slump Continues in 6-0 Blanking
May 13, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The Bakersfield Blaze continued a difficult homestand with a 6-0 loss to the visiting San Jose Giants on 1956 Boosters Throwback Night at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.
The first three innings looked like a pitchers' duel was shaping up, as Tyler Pike (L, 1-4) and Sam Coonrod (W, 2-1) each breezed through the frames, racking up nine outs with speed and efficiency.
Fortunes changed in the 4th, and not in the way a Blaze fan might have hoped. Pike, who seemed to hit a brief stint of wildness, issued a pair of walks, and Brandon Bednar made the Blaze pay with a three-run homer to left.
One inning later, the Giants pushed in front by a handful with two hits, a walk and a double steal that caught the Blaze off guard.
The final run for the visitors came off Osmer Morales in the 7th.
The bullpen, overall, was solid on the night, as Morales and Ronald Dominguez combined to give up just one run over 4.0 innings, striking out seven.
But the offense continued to run in place. For the third time in six days, the offense failed to produce a run, and has scored just 11 total runs over that span. Sam Coonrod worked 7.0 shutout innings for the win, and a pair of Giants relievers finished off the Blaze.
The Blaze will welcome the Stockton Ports to town starting on Friday with our Diamond Dig REMIX. After getting rained out last week, the Blaze have re-buried a Diamond Ring in the warning track, and fans can dig for buried treasure post-game! First pitch is at 7:15pm, with Eddie Campbell looking to get the Blaze back on track.
Dan Besbris will have the call on TuneIn Radio and at BakersfieldBlaze.com.
