Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI. - Green Bay starting right-handed pitcher Leo Perez (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) has officially been announced as the Bullfrogs lone selection to the 2018 Northwoods League All-Star Game. The All-Star festivities take place on July 24 at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo, MI.
Perez has developed into the ace of the Green Bay pitching staff this season. In six starts on the bump, Perez is 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA in 27 2/3 innings of work. He currently ranks second on the Bullfrogs pitching charts with 27 strikeouts.
Perez's best start of the 2018 campaign so far came back in his second outing on June 9 at Kalamazoo. He went five innings, allowing just one run on three hits with a season-high seven strikeouts. Whenever the team has needed a quality pitching performance, Perez has delivered to help put the Frogs in the win column.
His second-best start came in one of Green Bay's most exciting victories of the season. Perez was the winning pitcher in the Bullfrog's 6-4 win over the Madison Mallards on June 15 at The Duck Pond, snapping the Mallard's 12-game win streak. Perez fanned six batters in five frames of work to earn the victory. Madison's 12-game stretch is still the longest win streak by any Northwoods League team this season and Perez was a huge contributor in the Bullfrog's winning effort.
Perez entered this summer with the Frogs coming off a solid freshman campaign with Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. He was 4-3 with a 5.14 ERA through 15 appearances and five starts in his first season at the collegiate level. Perez posted 36 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .242 average over 35 innings pitched. Perez went 4-1 in his first outings as a freshman at the Division I level.
The annual Northwoods League All-Star Game showcases the nation's most elite college baseball players from the world's largest organized baseball league. Every year players are selected by a league-wide vote of coaches and media members, with each team having at least one representative.
The Home Run Derby and All-Star Game take place on July 24 at Homer Stryker Field. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the Derby starting at 5:30 p.m. The All-Star Game then begins at 7:30 p.m.
