March 7, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Birmingham Legion FC News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL. - Birmingham Legion FC announced today the signing of defender Kyle Culbertson to a multi-year contract, pending league and federation approval. Primarily playing as a starter at left-back, he spent last season with fellow USL Championship side Saint Louis FC.
"Kyle is a dynamic, attacking left-back that is an exciting addition to our backline," said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. "He's a guy with valuable USL experience and he has quickly fit into our team."
Culbertson made 28 appearances for Saint Louis last season, with 24 starts, and he added an assist to help the team make the USL Cup Playoffs.
Before debuting in the USL, Culbertson spent two seasons in the National American Soccer League with another expansion team, Puerto Rico FC. Across the 2016 and 2017 campaigns, he made 36 appearances and tacked on one goal and four assists.
Culbertson played college soccer at Ohio State University from 2013 to 2015 and scored 10 goals in 42 appearances. He spent the 2012 collegiate season playing for the Columbia Lions, but he started out at Akron playing for the Zips in 2011.
While in college he played for three different USL League Two teams - the Charlotte Eagles in 2015, Mississippi Brilla in 2012, and the Cincinnati Kings in 2011. Before heading off to college, Culbertson played in the Columbus Crew Youth Academy from 2009 to 2011.
