Legion FC Releases 2022 USL Championship Schedule

TAMPA, Fla. - The USL Championship has announced its full 2022 schedule, with the 459-game season set to bring old rivalries and new matchups across a 34-game, eight-month campaign to determine which clubs advance to the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs.

Legion FC opens the season at home on Sunday, March 13 at 4:00PM at Protective Stadium versus two-time defending Eastern Conference Champion Tampa Bay Rowdies and will play four of its first five games of the season at home.

Highlights on the 2022 schedule include home games versus Louisville City FC on Saturday, April 2, Miami FC on Wednesday, May 4, Memphis 901 FC on Wednesday, June 8, and our first game against San Diego at home on Saturday, August 13, among others.

The #ThreeSparks travel to take on Phoenix for the first time on Saturday, June 4, head to Atlanta on Wednesday, July 9, and will pop up I-20 to battle Memphis on Saturday, August 20.

Of Legion FC's 17 home games on the 2022 slate, seven will be played on Wednesdays, six on Saturdays, and four on Sundays. Birmingham's team will round out the regular season with its only Saturday home game of the fall on October 15 versus Indy Eleven.

Every match of the season will be available live on ESPN+ except for those that air on ESPN or ESPN2. The 2022 USL on ESPN broadcast schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2022 USL Championship season will feature 83 percent of its games on weekend dates (Friday-Sunday), with 72 of the league's 78 midweek games to be held on Wednesday nights throughout the season.

The Championship regular season will span 32 weeks, starting with the previously announced season kick off on Saturday, March 12, and a full slate of 13 games in the opening weekend. The regular season will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 15 with another full slate of 13 games that will decide postseason places and seeding for the top seven teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Featured on the final Saturday of games is a rematch of the 2021 Western Conference Final as Orange County SC visits San Antonio FC, while Birmingham Legion FC will be at home to Indy Eleven, New Mexico United plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Sacramento Republic FC welcomes California rival San Diego Loyal SC, and Miami FC will head to face Detroit City FC.

2022 USL Championship Playoffs

At the conclusion of the regular season on Oct. 15, the top seven teams in each conference will qualify for the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs. The first overall seed in each conference will receive a bye to the Conference Semifinals of the playoffs. The bracket will be reseeded following the Conference Quarterfinals to ensure the first overall seed in each conference plays against the lowest-seeded remaining opponent.

The USL Championship Playoffs will remain a single-elimination format, culminating in the 2022 USL Championship Final on a to-be-determined date between Nov. 10 and Nov. 14, 2022.
