Texas Legends News Release

WHITE PLAINS, NY--The Texas Legends traveled to New York to take on the Westchester Knicks for the first time in history Saturday night. After eight lead changes and seven ties, the Legends took the lead at the free throw line with one second on the clock and defended the final attempt from the Knicks to grab a 93-92 victory.

The Legends took off to an early lead, grabbing the first basket off the tip and utilizing a 10-point combined effort from Ricky Ledo and Doron Lamb to jump to a six-point advantage. Mike James added seven of his 11 points in the second quarter to fend off a Westchester rally attempt and head to halftime up 48-43. The second quarter also saw the largest lead of the game as the Legends constructed a nine-point gap. Texas went into the locker room with a 52.8% field-goal completion adding 42.9% from outside, while the Knicks stared down a 45.9% overall rating with 14.3% from behind the arc.

Westchester began gnawing at the deficit straight out of halftime, taking their first lead since the first minutes halfway through the third. The lead was short-lived as Renaldo Balkman and Doron Lamb teamed up to regain the advantage the Legends would hold through half of the fourth. With 6:35 to play, Andre Barrett knocked down a triple that would set the Knicks on a 12-2 run to their largest lead. Down by seven with 2:23 to play, the Legends began scraping back. With one minute on the clock, Balkman knocked down two free throws to cut the lead to two, but Barrett answered immediately with another long ball to send the Legends back to the drawing board. Eric Griffin dropped in a layup to put the score at 89-92 and give possession back to Westchester. As the Knicks made their way through the backcourt, Balkman and Lamb teamed up for a steal that would land Lamb on the free throw line for a clear path foul. Lamb made both to set up a 91-92 ball game, and after a set of missed free throws from both sides the buzzer sounded as Griffin attempted the final shot. After a review, the referees confirmed a foul with one second on the clock and Griffin took advantage of both free throws to push the Legends ahead 93-92. The Knicks were unable to convert the last play attempt and the Legends took the victory from the teams' first meeting.

Lamb led the Legends with 25 points, shooting 75% from outside and 60% overall. Balkman added the team's only double-double of 11 points, 11 rebounds. Andre Barrett added 19 points, 10 rebounds to lead the Knicks.

The Legends will continue their road streak in Delaware tomorrow taking on the 87ers at 4pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live on the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
