
Legends Shutout in Afternoon Affair Facing Fireflies

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends and Columbia Fireflies played a full nine innings for the first time this series, but the Legends fell 4-0. The Legends now drop to 35-30 while the Fireflies improve to 32-31 on the season.
The Fireflies scored three of their four runs in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Raphael Gladu lined a double into right field then was joined on the base path by Blake Tiberi when he drew a walk. Gladu and Tiberi both moved up a base when Andres Sotillet threw a wild pitch. Ali Sanchez brought home Gladu with an RBI single to left field, putting the Fireflies on the board 1-0. With runners at second and third, Jeremy Vasquez lined a two-run single to left field and Columbia led 3-0 after the sixth.
Columbia plated their final run of the game in the ninth inning. Matt Winaker and Wuilmer Becerra reached on back-to-back walks. Winaker then scored on an RBI single to right field by Quinn Brodey and the Fireflies remained on top 4-0.
Joe Cavallaro earned the win for Columbia pitching 6.0 shutout innings allowing five hits while striking out seven. Andres Sotillet was given the loss for the Legends tossing 5.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking one and striking out seven.
The Legends and Fireflies wrap up the series tomorrow, June 14 at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. RHP Yefri Del Rosario (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will be on the mound for Lexington to face LHP Anthony Kay (2-3, 4.02 ERA). Every Thursday, fans can bring their best friend of the K9 variety for Bark in the Park. Dog owners can bring their K9 friend to the ballpark for a $2 dog entry fee to be donated to the Scott County Humane Society. Fans of the adult variety can grab a drink during Thirsty Thursday presented by Kentucky Ale allowing fans to enjoy $1 12 oz. beers and $3 16 oz. beers at the Bullpen Patio, First Base Pavilion Tent, and the Handlebar in the first base concourse.
