ABOUT LAST GAME: For a second straight night, rain prevented a Columbia comeback bid. The Fireflies lost to Lexington, 2-1, on Tuesday in a rain-shortened five-inning game at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, and the home team ahead, the tarp was called for as rain started to pour down. The game was officially called 40 minutes later.
BLAME IT ON THE RAIN: Rain shortened Monday's game to eight innings and Tuesday's to just five. The Fireflies lost out on five combined innings to rally in the first two games of the series (both losses).
TOP OF THE MORNIN' TO YA!: The Fireflies play their 11th day/morning game on Wednesday. Columbia is 6-4 in games started before 5:00 p.m. and, more specifically, is 3-1 in games started before noon.
REINFORCEMENTS: Columbia's bullpen has been extremely reliable over the last five games:
- 11.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (0.81 ERA)
Trey Cobb owns the longest active scoreless streak on the mound among Fireflies relievers (8 IP).
WELCOME BACK TO THE BLUEGRASS STATE: Columbia infielder Blake Tiberi grew up in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, a little over an hour north of Lexington. The former Louisville Cardinal slugger has playing in front of roughly two dozen friends and family members at Whitaker Bank Ballpark this week (a park he played high school games in previously).
FINALLY: It was only a matter of time before SAL All-Star David Peterson was promoted to the advanced-A St. Lucie Mets (which happened on Tuesday). Peterson shredded the league over nine starts: 1.82 ERA (1.13 over his final seven outings), 57 K, 11 BB (none over last 31.2 IP).
WALK IT LIKE I TALK IT: Columbia is one of two teams in MiLB with three players leading their respective league in total walks, the other being the Fresno Grizzlies (HOU):
South Atlantic League (Low A) Pacific Coast League (AAA)
1. Blake Tiberi (COL) - 38 1. Drew Ferguson (Fresno), 42
2. Jeremy Vasquez (COL) - 35 2. Tyler White (Fresno), 40
3. Matt Winaker (COL) - 33 3. A.J. Reed (Fresno), 39
