Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), fell victim to the same situation they forced on Fort Wayne twice last weekend - a heavy early deficit. The team went down by as many as 24 in the first half before sparking a magnificent comeback to finish 111-106.
Grant Jerrett posted a game-high 13 points in the first quarter to push the 66ers up 39-19 over the Legends. Behind the hot shooting of Mickey McConnell (11points in the 2nd) and a combined effort on the defensive end, the Legends managed to cut the double-digit deficit down to a manageable seven points.
The team burst out of the locker room with a vengeance, outscoring Tulsa 29-16 in the third, but the battle wasn't over. Down 80-86 Jerrett fired up the 66ers bench with a hard slam to begin the final quarter. The Legends fought to pull ahead but could never get comfortable. With each shot seemed to come an answer. Mario Little and Terrel Harris fought for the boards pulling down four each in the last 12 minutes, but the Legends bench rallied to hold on to their undefeated record going into their first road trip of the season 3-0.
Throughout the exciting battle on the hardwood, the Legends honored the charity of the night, CityHouse of Frisco, and presenting sponsor the Jan Richey Team. For the last 25 years CityHouse has worked to help at-risk youth stay off the streets. The organization has grown from six beds in a small shelter to four homes and a multi-functional agency. CityHouse is expanding in 2014 to include two new homes in Frisco, and the night at the Legends game was purposed to raise both funds and awareness for this new project.
The Legends also introduced the newest recipient of the Dream Maker series. Legends' season ticket holder John White and his family were struck hard by the loss of a family member earlier this year. John and his wife Galena responded to this tragedy by opening their home to his brother's surviving family. The White Family was presented with gift cards and Maverick tickets to enjoy a few nights of fun and family bonding. John and Galena represent the true heart of the Legends' family.
The Legends will hit the road next week for the first time as they travel to Rio Grande Valley Monday, Dec. 2 to take on the Vipers at 7pm. The next home game will be Saturday, Dec. 7 hosting the Austin Toros at 7pm on Veracruz Court. For tickets or information call 214-469-0822.
