
Santa Cruz Warriors Fall to Bakersfield

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors were dealt their first loss of the season Friday night, falling 107-92 to the Bakersfield Jam.
All five Santa Cruz starters scored in double figures, with Cameron Jones leading the way with 22 points. Seth Curry scored 16 of his 18 points in the first quarter, finishing with a game-high seven assists and three steals. Kevin Kotzur notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, while Hilton Armstrong tied a team single-game high with six blocks, a mark he set last season on March 29, 2013, against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Jared Cunningham, currently on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, led Bakersfield with a game-high 23 points. Mac Koshwal scored 22 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds, while Brian Butch scored 20 and had 14 boards.
The Warriors led 34-29 at the end of the first quarter, shooting 63.2% from the field, but the team shot just 33.8% over the next three quarters and never held a lead in the second half. The Warriors were within four points twice in the final frame, once off a pair of Hilton Armstrong free throws with 8:04 left and once off a Mychel Thompson jumper with 6:08 left. The Jam finished the game on a 15-4 run to hand the Warriors their first loss.
Both teams shot 40.2% from the field and turned the ball over 20 times. The Jam won the rebound battle (62-47) and held the edge on assists (23-19) and steals (12-10). Santa Cruz blocked eight shots to Bakersfield's three.
The Santa Cruz Warriors return to Kaiser Permanente Arena tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. against the Los Angeles D-Fenders for the final game of the opening homestand.
