Koshwal, Butch Lead Jam to First Victory of the Season

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (1-3) defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors (3-1) 107-92 Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Mac Koshwal (22 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists) and Brian Butch (20 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals) led the way for the Jam.
Santa Cruz pulled ahead 34-29 after the first quarter, thanks in part to Seth Curry scoring 16 first quarter points. The Jam sharpened up their offense and defense in the second quarter and went into the break tied at 53 with the Warriors. Third quarter was the difference in the game, as Bakersfield outscored Santa Cruz 33-21 and held the Warriors to just 32 percent shooting from the field to take a 86-74 lead after three quarters of play. In the fourth, the Jam continued their strong efforts on both sides of the court and extended their advantage to as many as 15 points.
In addition to Koshwal and Butch posting double-doubles, Jared Cunningham had a game-high of 23 points. James Nunnally finished with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Aaron Johnson contributed 13 points and four assists off the bench.
The Warriors were led by Cameron Jones (22 points) and Seth Curry (18 points, 7 assists, 3 steals). Daniel Nwaelele, Kevin Kotzur and Hilton Armstrong each scored 12 points.
The Jam are back in action on Sunday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. PST against the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders.
