Legends Gain Series Split with 12-5 Win

(CHARLESTON, W. Va.) The Lexington Legends scored six runs in the first inning and went on to a 12-5 win over the West Virginia Power Sunday.

Lexington's Terrance Gore led off the game with a single and scored on a triple by Ethan Chapman. Fred Ford's ground out scored Chapman from third. After Michael Antonio was hit by a pitch. Humberto Arteaga struck out, but Jin-Ho Shin followed with a double to right field, scoring Antonio. Yowill Espinal and Adrian Morales both walked, loading the bases. West Virginia changed pitchers, replacing starter Jake Burnett with Thomas Harlan. On a full-count pitch, Nic Cuckovich lined a double to right field, clearing the bases and giving the Legends a 6-0 lead.

The Legends added another run in the second when Ford hit a solo homer, his third home run in his last five games.

West Virginia came back with three runs in the bottom of the second, two scoring on a double by Max Moroff. The Legends scored one run in the third after an errant pickoff attempt to take an 8-3 lead. Stetson Allie's solo homer in the fifth cut the margin to four at 8-4.

But the Legends pulled away again with four more runs in the sixth. Antonio's two-run double capped the scoring for Lexington.

The Power scored their final run in the bottom of the ninth.

Legends starter Bryan Brickhouse (2-3) worked the first five innings and got the victory. Burnette (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

For the second time this season, the Legends and Power split a four-game series. They each won two games in a series in Lexington May 9-12.

The Legends return home to meet the Asheville Tourists in a three-game series. Game time Monday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
