(Charleston, WV, May 18, 2013): The West Virginia Power fell to the Lexington Legends 12-5 Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. The Power allowed six runs in the first inning to split the four-game series.
Lexington sent ten batters to the plate and tallied six runs on four hits in the first inning off Power starter Jake Burnette. The Legends also added a run in the second on Fred Ford's fifth home run of the season.
West Virginia responded in the bottom of the second by scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. D.J. Crumlich hit an RBI single to score Wyatt Mathisen and Max Moroff drove in Crumlich and Junior Sosa with a two-out double to cut the Lexington lead to 7-3.
After Lexington added another run in the fourth, Stetson Allie hit second home run of the series in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-4. The solo home run was Allie's tenth this season and his second of the series.
In the top of the 6th, Lexington added their final four runs to take a 12-4 lead. Josh Bell scored the final run for West Virginia in the ninth inning on a throwing error. Burnette (0-1) took the loss by allowing six runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning for West Virginia. Brian Brickhouse (2-3) received the win by tossing five innings for Lexington.
West Virginia will travel to Kannapolis Monday to play a three-game series with the Intimidators. Joely Rodriguez will take the mound for West Virginia against Kannapolis starter Euclides Leyer. First pitch is scheduled 7:05.
The Power return home Thursday for a seven-game homestand. West Virginia will play four against the Lakewood BlueClaws, followed by three against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
