Lexington Legends News Release
The first four hitters in the Lake County Captains' lineup drove in two runs each, and three Captains recorded three hits in the game to lead Lake County to a 12-3 victory over the Lexington Legends in game one of a four-game series. The Captains plated five runs in the first three innings and pummeled the Legends for six runs in the fifth inning.
Lake County wasted no time getting their offense rolling. The Captains plated three runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Karexon Sanchez hit a ground-rule double with one out in the inning, Roman Pena followed with a single that scored Sanchez. Pena moved to second on a wild pitch from Jake Leonhardt and scored on Todd Martin's two-run home run to right field.
The Captains added single runs in the second and third innings to stretch their lead. Jake Leonhardt loaded the bases in the second inning and allowed Jeffrey Hehr to score on a wild pitch. In the third inning, Matthew Brown struck out swinging, but reached first base on a wild pitch on strike three. Brown moved to third on Chris Nash's single and scored when Adam Davis grounded into a double play.
The Legends tried to keep the game close early with two runs in the second inning and a single run in the fourth inning. Jacob Priday walked to lead off the second inning and scored on Steve Brown's two-run home run. Priday scored again in the fourth inning after the Legends loaded the bases. Priday moved to third when Max Sapp walked and Steve Brown was hit by a pitch. Cat Everett grounded out to bring Priday home.
The close game turned ugly in the fifth inning when the Lake County offense erupted for six runs. Matt Brown walked, Chris Nash singled and after Brett Robinson came into the game for Lexington Adam Davis walked to load the bases. Jeffrey Hehr drove one run home on an infield single to shortstop. The second run came home on a groundout from White. Mark Thompson singled home two more runners to plate the third and fourth runs of the inning. Karexon Sanchez finished the scoring for Lake County with a two-run blast to right field.
Chris Archer earned the win for Lake County after surrendering three runs in five innings of work. Jake Leonhardt took the loss for Lexington after surrendering seven runs in four and one-third innings of work.
