Lexington Legends News Release


(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, KY.) Lexington starter Daniel Stumpf and relievers Daniel Hernandez and Cory Hall teamed up for a six-hit shutout as the Lexington Legends took a 4-0 victory over the Greenville Drive Sunday afternoon.

Stumpf (1-0) worked the first five innings and got the win. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out six. Hernandez pitched the next three innings and gave up three hits and no runs. Hall gave up one hit in the ninth.

Greenville starter Cody Kukuk (1-1) was the losing pitcher

The Legends took the lead in the fourth inning. Bubba Starling led off with a ground rule double down the right field line, moved to third on a ground out and scored with on a wild pitch with two outs.

Lexington added three more runs in the fifth. Fred Ford led off with a walk, and Terrance Gore reached on an error by third baseman Nick Moore. Ethan Chapman beat out a bunt, loading the bases. After Jeff Wendelken relieved Kukuk, Raul Mondesi grounded into a force play at second base as Ford scored. Humberto Arteaga followed with a single, scoring Gore and sending Mondesi to third base. Mondesi and the Legends had their 4-0 lead.

Greenville starter Cody Kukuk (1-1) pitched four innings and took the loss.

The Legends begin a three-game series in Augusta Monday night. Game time is 7:05.
