Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC--For the second consecutive game, West Virginia churned out a massive run- scoring inning late to defeat the Asheville Tourists. Sunday afternoon, Asheville led 6-4 heading into the eighth inning, but six-runs later the Power jumped in front 10-6 after the frame. West Virginia ended up with a 12-7 victory.

The Tourists fell behind 4-0 after the top of the fifth, but they batted around in the bottom of the fifth and scored five runs to take the lead. Julian Yan led off the inning with a solo Home Run and Matt Wessinger made it 4-2 with an RBI single. Francisco Sosa then tied the game with a two-run single and he later scored on Drew Beuerlein's double down the right field line.

Derek Jones gave the home team some insurance with a solo Home Run in the seventh. Jones finished 3-for-5 and a triple shy of the cycle.

Momentum quickly shifted in the top of the eighth. With one out and a runner at second, Power catcher Wyatt Mathisen hit a fly ball into shallow right field. Yan did not read the ball well off the bat, started jogging to the ball, and then watched it drop right in front of him for a gift single. The very next batter, Juan Fortunato, clubbed a three-run Homer to give the Power a one- run lead.

The wheels came off after that as the Power plated five more runs the rest of the way. Fortunato was the hero last night with his game tying three-run blast in the ninth.

Asheville will welcome the Hickory Crawdads to McCormick Field on Monday night with the first pitched scheduled for 7:05 pm.
