Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 14, 2013) -- Kannapolis starting pitcher Myles Jaye tossed a career-high eight scoreless innings and struck out seven to pitch the Intimidators past the Hickory Crawdads, 6-0, on Sunday evening at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Jaye (3-0) gave up just three hits and one walk while surpassing his previous career-long outing of six innings, set June 16 last season with a scoreless outing at Delmarva.

Jaye faced the minimum through the first five innings, allowing a leadoff double to Ryan Rua in the second, but Rua was thrown out trying to advance on a fly-out to left field one batter later. In the sixth and seventh innings, Hickory put a man on third with one out, but both times Jaye was able to strand the runner. The 21-year-old from Fayetteville, Ga., induced a double-play to get out of the eighth and end his evening.

Kannapolis (7-4) took advantage of seven Hickory walks, converting four into runs, including two in the second inning. Yoandy Barroso and Rangel Ravelo led off the inning reach consecutive base on balls and scored on a wild pitch and Jean Almanzar RBI-groundout, respectively.

Adam Heisler drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Ravelo groundout in the third, and Michael Marjama mimicked those efforts with a leadoff walk and run in the fifth inning.

Hickory (4-7) starter Kelvin Vazquez (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on one hit over 3 2/3 innings, walking five. John Kukuruda also gave up three runs in relief for the Crawdads.

Adam Lopez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to complete the shutout, the first thrown by Kannapolis this season.

The Intimidators begin a three-game series with Delmarva on Monday at 7:05 p.m. at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Every Monday is Belly Buster Monday presented by HMS Host featuring all-you-can-eat for only $10 (excludes drinks, candy, ice cream).
