GREENSBORO, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws (2-9) collected 13 hits and snapped a seven-game losing streak with an 8-3 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (7-4) Sunday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park. The BlueClaws set season-high's in both the hits and runs in the victory.

The BlueClaws trailed 2-1 in the fifth before they exploded for the best offensive output in an inning this season. With two out and the bases loaded Brian Pointer hit an infield single to third and Yan Olmo scored to tie the game.

Greensboro's starter, Mason Hope, wasn't out of the woods as Art Charles followed Olmo with his first double of the season and cleared the bases to put the 'Claws in front 5-2. Mitch Walding singled home Charles to cap off the scoring in the inning.

Zach Taylor tripled to begin the sixth and scored on Olmo's sac fly to center to make it a 7-2 game. In the seventh it was Angelo Mora and Pointer with back-to-back base hits that produced a run and gave Lakewood a six-run advantage.

Greensboro picked up a run in the seventh off of Nicholas Hanson, but that was all they could muster and as close as they could get.

The BlueClaws jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third off of Greensboro righty Mason Hope. Chad Carman doubled to lead off the frame and Zach Taylor pushed him to third with a single. After Olmo popped out to second, Roman Quinn dragged a bunt up the first base line that allowed Carman to score as Hope threw the ball away. Taylor was thrown out at the plate as he attempted to score on the play.

The lead, once again, did not last more than half an inning for Lakewood, as the 'Hoppers responded with a run in the next half inning. Sharif Othman led off the inning with a double and scored two hitters later on Cameron Flynn's two-out single to left.

Jordan Guth made his third start of the season and delivered a beauty. The righty went the first six for Lakewood and allowed just two runs on four hits; he walked one and struck out five. Guth (1-2) became the first BlueClaws' starter to earn a win this season. Hanson tossed the final three frames and earned his first save of the season. He allowed just the one run on two hits; he walked one and struck out four.

Hope's (0-1) second outing of the season ended with two down in the fifth. The righty allowed six runs on nine hits; he did not walk a batter and struck out just one. He was followed up by Helpi Reyes, who allowed two runs on four hits, and Miguel Fermin out of the bullpen.
