Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(LEXINGTON, KY) -- Freddy Acevedo hit a grand slam to spark a five run third inning as Lexington defeated Charleston for the first time this year, 7-1. The win for Lexington ended an eight-game winning streak for the Cats against the Legends dating back to last year.
Lexington (28-35) loaded the bases with one out in the third inning. Acevedo swung at the first pitch he saw from Cats starter Ismael Ramirez (3-2) and launched a grand slam over the left-field fence. It was his second homerun of the season. The Legends added one more run in the inning on back-to-back doubles by Mark Obradovich and Robinson Cespedes to make it 5-0 Lexington.
Ramirez, the Cats lone All-Star representative, suffered the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.
The Alley Cats (26-32) got their only run in the fifth inning on a solo homerun by Raul Tablado. His sixth homerun of the year made it 5-1. One night after scoring nine runs on 15 hits, the Cats were held to just one run and four hits.
That would be as close as Charleston would get. The Legends added an unearned run in the seventh and another run in the eighth to make it 7-1.
Devern Hansack (5-4) allowed just the one run in seven innings of work for the win. It was his longest outing of the season.
Charleston is now 3-7 on the current road trip, and 5-1 on the season against the Legends. They round out the eleven game swing Tuesday night at 7:05 pm. Ramon Mora (2-0, 3.77 ERA) will make his first start for the Cats. Jailen Peguero (2-6, 3.25 ERA) will take the hill for Lexington.
