
Lee named new Otters captain

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced today that Brian Lee has been selected as the team captain for the 2004-2005 season.
The veteran defenseman is the longest serving member of the franchise having played in an Otters record 252 games in the first four years of his OHL career. Entering his fifth and final junior season, Lee has never missed a game due to injury and has played 187 consecutive games (153 regular season, 30 playoff and four Memorial Cup games) dating back to the 2001-2002 season.
The 20 year-old native of Berrien Springs, Michigan is coming off his finest offensive season finishing fourth in Otters scoring with eight goals and 32 assists for 40 points in 68 games. In his career Lee has collected 17 goals, 56 assists and 73 points to go along with 403 minutes in penalties.
Rob Hisey, Mike Blunden, Geoff Platt and Ryan O'Marra will serve as assistant captains. Lee becomes the ninth full-time captain in Otters franchise history succeeding fellow defenseman Chris Campoli, who moved onto the professional ranks after signing a three-year contract with the New York Islanders in September. Former captains include Steve Nimigon (1996-97), Jeff Paul and Colin Pepperall (1997-98), Shane Nash (1999-00), Brad Boyes (2000-02), Chris Eade (2002-03) and Campoli (2003-04). The Otters utilized a rotating captaincy in the 1998-99 season.
The Otters open the 2004-2005 OHL Regular Season this Friday in Sault Ste. Marie against the Greyhounds. The game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1300 The FAN and at www.ottershockey .com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:20 p.m.
The Otters 2004-2005 Home Opener will take place Saturday, October 2nd when the Kitchener Rangers pay a visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
