Barrie Colts News Release
Barrie, ON- Head Coach Marty Williamson today announced the appointment of 19-year old right winger B.J. Crombeen as the team's captain for the 2004-05 season.
The Newmarket native is in his fourth year with the Colts after they selected him in the first round (8th overall) of the 2001 Priority Selection. He has registered 55 goals and 66 assists to go along with 405 penalty minutes in 185 games over three seasons with Barrie. He was also a member of Team Canada's Under-18 Team that captured a gold medal in the 2003 World Under-18 Hockey Championships in Yaroslavl, Russia, and he attended the National Junior Team's Summer Evaluation this past August in Calgary, Alberta.
"I have learned a lot from great leaders like Jeremy Swanson and Erik Reitz in my three years with the club," stated Crombeen Thursday morning from the Molson Centre. "I will try and take some of the experiences that I gained from being around them and pass them on to the younger guys on the team."
"B.J. possesses all of the qualities you look for in your captain," stated Head Coach Marty Williamson. "Having known B.J. from the past, he brings a good comfort level to me and is someone the players look up to."
The assistant captains will be Bryan Little, Dan Speer and Scott Hotham.
The Colts open up the regular season this Friday in Toronto against the St. Michael' Majors (7:30 p.m.) before they travel to Yardmen Arena for a visit with the Bulls on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Their first home game takes place Thursday September 30th when they host the Owen Sound Attack at the Barrie Molson Centre (7:30 p.m.). Tickets are still available and can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling (705)-739-7666, in person at the box office or on-line at www.barriecolts.com.
