York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution lost its first home series of the season, dropping the finale to the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. The win brings the Barnstormers (23-19) within two games of the Revs (26-18) in the Freedom Division standings and gives Lancaster a 5-2 lead in the War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank.

Mike Lee (2-1) anchored another strong Barnstormer pitching performance, allowing one run on four hits in five innings before handing it off to Matt Reynolds, Pete Andrelczyk, Scott Gracey, and Cory Burns for the final four frames.

James Simmons (4-2) was the hard-luck loser after 5.2 innings of two-run, eight-hit ball. Burns's perfect ninth gave him his ninth save of the season.

Simmons and Lee traded goose eggs for the first three frames, both aided by outstanding defense. In the bottom of the second, Alfredo Marte hit a scorching groundball down the third base line. Sean Halton dove full-extension to snag it and then threw falling back from his knees for the spectacular putout.

With a man on first in the top of the third, Simmons snagged a comebacker to start a 1-6-3 double play, helping him get out of trouble.

Lancaster made its move in the top of the fourth as Halton dropped a leadoff double down the right field line. After a flyout, K.C. Hobson singled to move Halton up to third, and Lance Zawadzki hit a soft groundball to the pitcher to bring home the first run. Travis Witherspoon then golfed a soft liner to center to bring home Hobson and make it 2-0.

Marte got the Revs on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a line drive home run over the Arch Nemesis, cutting the deficit in half.

Ron Schreurs, Ricardo Gomez, and Julio DePaula combined for 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Simmons, but the Barnstormers got to Mariel Checo in the ninth for insurance. Charlie Cutler led off with a single and stole second, then after a flyout and a strikeout, Witherspoon knocked him in with a single to give the game its final margin.

Jason Repko paced the Revolution offense, going 2-for-4 with a hustle double in the third.

Witherspoon led the way for Lancaster with a pair of RBI singles. Cutler and Hobson each went 2-for-4 with a run.

Notes: After averaging 6.4 runs in their first 22 home games, the Revs have scored just one run in their last two games at PeoplesBank Park. Andres Perez stretched his hitting streak to 10 games (.375, 15-40) with a fourth-inning single. After an off day on Monday, the Revs will welcome the Long Island Ducks - the only team York has yet to face this season - for a three-game set beginning on Tuesday. Tony Pena (4-0, 3.57) squares off with lefty Darin Downs (3-2, 5.07) on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Tuesday marks two-hour all-you-can-eat Taco Tuesday in the Dietz & Bluett Insurance Diamond Deck, as well as the first Buck A Book redemption day presented by the York Literacy Council. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
