Lansing Lugnuts News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the second straight night, the Lansing Lugnuts (31-34) broke a late tie, defeating the Fort Wayne TinCaps (28-37), 4-3, on Jason Leblebijian's RBI double at Parkview Field on Wednesday night.
With the game tied and two outs in the eighth, third baseman Leblebijian lined a 1-2 pitch down the left field line off Fort Wayne reliever Coby Cowgill (Loss, 2-2) to score Dickie Joe Thon.
The one-run lead was enough for Lansing's bullpen, which was superb in 5 1/3 innings.
Lansing's Phil Kish (Win, 4-2) entered in the fifth inning and extinguished a Fort Wayne rally, finishing his night with two strikeouts on one hit in 2 1/3 scoreless frames.
After Alonzo Gonzalez pitched a clean eighth inning, closer Griffin Murphy (Save, 10) worked around a hit in the ninth to finish off the TinCaps for a second straight game.
Leblebijian supplied two RBI's in a 1-for-4 night, while Thon finished 2-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs.
The Lugnuts look to finish the sweep of the TinCaps on Thursday night at Parkview Field with Matt Dermody (3-2, 5.18) starting on the mound. Fort Wayne will pitch former Beloit Snappers hurler Ronald Herrera (4-4, 3.45).
