PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs got a doubleheader split with the Kane County Cougars, winning game one 2-1 but dropping game two 4-3. Alex Reyes pitched a complete game in game one to earn the win, but Kane County scored three runs over the final two innings in the nightcap to earn the victory. The Chiefs record is 34-31 and they are one game out of the Wild Card with four games left.

In game one, Kane County scored a run in the first inning. Jacob Hannemann walked to begin the game against Chiefs starter Alex Reyes. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Hannemann scored on a two-out double by Jordan Hankins.

The Chiefs took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Vaughn Bryan led off with a double to left. Juan Herrera hit a ground ball in the hole at short and Bryan broke for third base. Carlos Penalver's throw to third was a bad one and Bryan scored to tie the game as Herrera took second. Carson Kelly followed with a single to right plating Herrera for a 2-1 Chiefs lead.

Reyes (4-5) retired 15 in a row from the last batter of the first inning until two outs in the sixth in earning the seven-inning complete game win. He allowed one run on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

In game two, the Chiefs scored a run in the first inning. CJ McElroy Jr. led off with a walk and stole second. He advanced to third when Bryan flew out to deep center field and scored on a ground out to third by Herrera. Peoria added a pair of runs in the third. Michael Schulze hit a one-out single and got to third on Bryan's double. Herrera doubled to left-center to score both runs and give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars got a run back in the top of the fourth on a Cael Brockmeyer sacrifice fly, the only run allowed by Chiefs starter Chase Brookshire. Kane County scored in the sixth off Jhonny Polanco when former Chief Tim Saunders lined a two-out double off the wall in left to score Ben Carhart and make it a 3-2 game in favor or Peoria. After a walk loaded the bases, Steve Sabatino came in to get a strikeout and preserve the Chiefs lead.

Sabatino returned for the seventh and yielded a leadoff single to Hannemann who advanced to second on an error by McElroy in center. Penalver followed with a sacrifice bunt but Sabatino threw it away towards first base allowing Hannemann to score. Penalver got to second and Kevin Herget replaced Sabatino. A fly out moved Penalver to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly for a 4-3 Cougars lead.
