
Late Homer Dooms Captains in 5-3 Loss

(South Bend, IN)- Michael Perez hit his fourth homerun of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Silver Hawks went on to beat the Captains 5-3. The homer was a solo shot and gave the Hawks the two run cushion. With the win South Bend clinched a playoff birth in 2014.
South Bend (39-26) scored a single run in the first three innings to take the early 3-0 lead. In the first Daniel Palka tripled home the run. In the second Marty Herum had an RBI single and in the third inning Stryker Trahan hit a solo homer his eighth of the season and the Hawks led by three.
The Hawks added a run to take the 4-0 lead, but the Captains answered back in the seventh inning. Lake County (24-42) sent eight men to the plate and scored three runs. Torsten Boss hit a two-run triple to right field to half the lead to 4-2. Then, Richard Stock hit an opposite field single to left and Boss scored and the score was 4-3 at the stretch.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-8) was on the mound for the Captains. Milbrath took the loss after pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits. Milbrath walked four and struck out one. Justin Brantley pitched two innings in his Captains debut. Brantley allowed two hits, and one earned run, he struck out one and walked one. Brantley surrendered the homer to Perez. Trevor Frank pitched one inning and allowed just one hit.
RHP Blake Perry (5-3) started for South Bend and earned the win. Perry pitched six innings of scoreless no hit baseball. Perry walked just one and hit one batter with a pitch to earn the win. It was the second time that Blake Perry pitch six no hit innings against the Captains this season. South Bend used three bullpen pitchers but Silvino Bracho pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the second straight night to earn his eleventh save on the season.
The Captains will remain to South Bend, IN on Thursday to conclude a three game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks. The Captains will send RHP Robbie Aviles (1-1, 1.70) and South Bend will counter with RHP John Omahen (1-1, 1.93). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Four Winds Field.
