Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - With a cheering Minnesota audience behind him, prospective Waterloo Black Hawks forward Tony Cameranesi was taken Saturday during the second day of the NHL Draft.

The Toronto Maple Leafs used the ninth pick of the fifth round, 130th overall, to acquire the rights to Cameranesi, a center from Wayzata, Minnesota.

In 25 high school games last winter, Cameranesi recorded 15 goals and 39 assists. NHL Central Scouting ranking him 178th among eligible North American skaters. In May of 2010, the Hawks selected Cameranesi in the fifth round of the United States Hockey League entry draft. He may skate for Waterloo this winter, and participated in the Hawks' try-out camp earlier this month in Chicago.

Former Black Hawks star Jason Blake played for the Maple Leafs from 2007 to 2010. The only former Waterloo player to be drafted by Toronto previously was Lubos Velebny, during the seventh round in 2007. Cameranesi is the ninth player with ties to the Hawks to be drafted in the fifth round or earlier since 2005.
