GENEVA, IL - Bode Laylin registered his first career multi-goal game and Luca Jarvis supplied his first career game-winning goal as the Tri-City Storm defeated the Chicago Steel 3-2 on Saturday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
Tri-City (22-19-5, 49 pts) has won seven of its past nine contests. Chicago (20-18-7, 47 pts) dropped its second game in regulation to a Western Conference team this season.
Down 2-1 entering the third period, Laylin evened the game just 26 seconds into the frame. As Tri-City controlled in its offensive zone, the St. Thomas commit ripped a high wrist shot from the right point that snuck top shelf past Steel netminder Louis-Felix Charrois
Jarvis's game winner came at the 11:59 mark of the third. As he skated down the left wing of his offensive zone, the Minnesota commit made a move to force Charrois to the ice, then steered the puck around the left side of his body to stick it in the back of the net. The marker was Jarvis's first of the season.
Chicago pulled Charrois for an extra attacker with approximately two minutes remaining. Despite a handful of good looks, the Steel failed to equalize.
Tri-City scored the game's first goal exactly one minute into the second period. Mason Jenson patiently skated the puck down the left wing of the Steel zone, then carefully fed a streaking Laylin in front of the Chicago cage. Laylin redirected the puck past Charrois for his first tally of the night.
The Steel answered less than 90 seconds later. From the right wing of the Tri-City zone, Luke Goukler fed Ryland Rooney in front of the Storm net during a 2-on-1 rush. Rooney caught the feed, then used his backhand to shove it past Storm goaltender Michal Pradel for his 11th marker of the campaign.
The Steel grabbed a 2-1 lead with a power play goal in the middle stages of the second frame. Off a wild deflection that sent the puck from the right corner in front of the Tri-City net, Goukler slipped a feed to Brady Kudrick who sent a snapshot from the slot over Pradel's glove side for his 12th goal of the season.
Pradel collected his 14th win of the year, stopping 28 of 30 Chicago shots. Charrois suffered his 11th loss of the season after halting 25 of 28 Tri-City attempts.
Laylin (2-0-0) and Chicago's Luke Goukler (0-2-2) were the only players to finish with multiple points. Laylin has registered eight points (4-4-8) over his past five appearances.
