Mississippi RiverKings News Release

KNOXVILLE, Kent.-- The Knoxville Ice Bears (10-6-0) capitalized on two power play opportunities in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. The Mississippi RiverKings (9-7-2) scored two goals in the third period, but would not be enough to bounce back for a win.

RiverKings defenseman Kyle Lundale netted his first goal of the season with a shot from the point at the 12:55 mark of the first period. The goal gave the 'Kings a one-goal lead until Brett Valliquette beat David Wilson five hole to tie the game at one.

Knoxville took the lead early into the second period. An awkward bounce off Wilson's skate and into net came from Mark Van Vilet at the 1:10 mark of the second period. The Ice Bears would add to that one-goal lead when David Segal buried one past Wilson on the power play at the 15:58 mark.

Knoxville added to their two-goal lead on the power play with an interference call on Kyle Lundale. Tyler Fernandez poked the puck pass Wilson to net the third power play goal of the night for the Ice Bears. Knoxville held off the 'Kings for most of the third period until the 11:46 mark. Shorthanded, Nick Walsh beat Toomey five-hole to cut the Ice Bears' lead to two. The RiverKings last attempt to tie the game came late in the third period on the power play and with an extra attacker on the ice, as Wilson was pulled and on the bench. Andrew Randazzo buried one pass Toomey to make it a 4-3 game. The late goal for the RiverKings was not enough and the 'Kings fell to the Ice Bears 4-3.

David Wilson (3-3-1) stopped 36 of 40 shots against in the loss. Connor Toomey (7-3-0) turned aside 27 of 30 shots in the win for Knoxville.

The RiverKings return home to the Landers Center tomorrow night for Noah's Gift 5K jersey night as the 'Kings will wear special NG5K jerseys to be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Noah's Gift endowment fund at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.
