Gateway Grizzlies News Release
For the third consecutive night, the Gateway Grizzlies (15-4) used an eighth inning rally to defeat the Evansville Otters (8-11). The Grizzlies scored two eighth inning runs Monday night to take down the Otters 5-4 in front of 3,988 at GCS Ballpark.
Jesse Acosta singled inside the third base line to drive in Jason Arrowood, who had singled with one out, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Acosta went to third on a pinch hit single by Kyle Bradburry. Ryan Sullivan followed. Sullivan hit a fly to deep right center. The ball was caught, but deep enough for Acosta to score, making it 5-4. Acosta was 2-4 with two RBIs.
The Grizzlies took an early lead on a first inning home run by Sullivan. Sullivan finished 1-4 with the two RBIs.
Evansville plated three in the top of the second to go up 3-1. The Grizzlies tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Dustin Roberts led off the inning with an infield single, then stole second. Stephen Holdren singled to score Roberts. Acosta doubled with two outs to drive in Roberts to tied the game at three.
The Otters regained the lead with a run in the fifth.
Brandon Kellbach (4-0) earned the win in relief. Kellbach tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless ball. He allowed a hit. He followed Jeremy Dow, and Chris Little. Little went just four innings in his first start of the year. He allowed three runs on four hits. He struck out four.
