Florence, Kentucky: A traffic jam on I-75 hurt the attendance at Champion Window Field, but the jam didn't carry over to the Freedom lineup. Getting on base hasn't been a problem all homestand, and the trend continued last night.
After Reggie Watson singled, Beau Blacken drove him in on an RBI single in the first. Joe Holland led off the second with a walk. He along with catcher Joe Neal scored on a Reggie Watson two run single. Beau Blacken led off the third inning with a towering homerun over the leftfield fence to make it a 4-2 ballgame. It was quite until the seventh inning, when Greg Stone led off the Freedom seventh with a triple. Reggie Watson followed him up with an RBI single. Tim Grogan scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, and the Freedom rolled on 6-2. The win was Freedom manager Jaime Keefe's 100th victory as manager of Florence.
Greg Stone led the offense from the lead-off spot, he went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored. Reggie Watson earned player of the game honors, he went 3-4 with three RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Beau Blacken went 2-4 with his fourth homerun of the season, two RBI, and a run scored. Joe Holland went 2-3 with a run scored. Catcher Joe Neal has got a hit in every game since he was signed on Friday. He went 1-4 with a run scored.
Newly signed pitcher Nick Dunning got the start, he pitched well, going four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits striking out four. Xavier grad Mark Janszen (1-0) picked up the win, he went two and two/thirds, not allowing a hit while striking out three. Jason Bennion continued to give lefties trouble, he went an inning and a third, not allowing a hit while striking out two. He has yet to yield a hit to a lefty hitter. Jon Troop came in and pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Freedom head to Washington for a short, but crucial series with the Wild Things. The Freedom are currently in the wild card lead at 9-9, but are three and a half games back of Washington in the East division. Jason Bowlin (1-1) will get the start for Florence, the game will be televised on FSN Pittsburgh and Fox College Sports Atlantic.
