Tulsa 66ers News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Tulsa 66ers won their fifth straight game by defeating the Iowa Energy, 117-113, on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. With the win, Tulsa finished the month of February with an 8-2 record, the best in the NBA D-League during that span.
In a game that featured 12 lead changes in the second half, the 66ers found themselves trailing Iowa 108-107 with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Tulsa went on an 8-0 run over the next minute to take a 115-108 lead before holding off the Energy in the final seconds. Isaiah Wilkerson and Mustafa Shakur combined for 21 of Tulsa's 36 fourth-quarter points.
Five 66ers scored in double figures, including three with 20 or more points. Reggie Williams led Tulsa in scoring with 27 points off of 12-for-18 shooting to go with nine boards and four assists. Shakur collected 22 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals and Wilkerson finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Grant Jerrett posted 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks and Mario Little added 12 points and five boards.
After a slow start for both teams on the offensive end, Iowa (21-12) built up an early lead in the opening quarter to go up 31-22 after the first. Trailing 47-39 with just under five minutes left in the half, Tulsa (17-20) used an 8-2 run to pull within two. The 66ers and Energy exchanged buckets back-and-forth for the remainder of the half as Iowa took a 55-53 lead to the break.
Tulsa erased the Iowa lead with four straight points to start the second half. Iowa responded immediately with five straight of its own to retake the lead. Trailing 73-70, Tulsa built a 9-0 run, which was quickly countered by an 11-2 run from Iowa to close the third quarter with the Energy holding an 83-81 advantage.
Iowa began the final frame with a pair of free throws to take a four-point lead, which would be its largest of the quarter. Tulsa used four straight points to tie the game at 87 and would keep the game close over the next seven minutes before going on its big run to close the game.
The Energy was led by Othyus Jeffers with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
The 66ers travel back home to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the SpiritBank Event Center for their first of nine home games during the month of March. For ticket information, visit Tulsa66ers.com.
