Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday, February 28 - The Erie BayHawks returned to action following a week-long break to host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tonight at the Erie Insurance Arena. After controlling play for the first three quarters, the BayHawks squandered their lead and Fort Wayne downed Erie 112-102.
After a slow start by both teams, the BayHawks (11-25) jumped out to a 28-24 advantage to end the first quarter. The BayHawks bench bunch led the way, scoring 20 of their 28 points in the frame. The game stayed close through the second quarter and Erie held a 57-56 lead at the intermission.
Justin Brownlee led all scorers in the first half with 16 points off the bench for Erie while Ron Howard paced Fort Wayne with 14 points.
The Mad Ants (22-14) used an 8-2 run to take a five point advantage early in the third. Erie responded with an 11-2 run of their own to regain the lead, 70-66. Fort Wayne used a 10-2 run to break the 78 point tie to start the fourth quarter. The Mad Ants never looked back as Trey McKinney-Jones and Memphis Grizzlies assignee Jamaal Franklin each scored 13 fourth quarter points to polish off the BayHawks 112-102.
Ricky Davis led all scorers with 25 points and seven rebounds for the BayHawks. Brownlee finished with 18 points and five rebounds, Scott Suggs scored 17 points and Lewis Jackson added 14 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds for Erie. Six Mad Ants scored at least 14 points, paced by McKinney-Jones and Mitchell's 19 points. Franklin (18 points, six assists and six rebounds), Ron Howard (16 points), Matt Bouldin (15 points) and Will Frisby (14 points) all contributed with solid scoring efforts for Fort Wayne.
The BayHawks will return to action tomorrow night as they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Mad Ants return home tomorrow to host the Iowa Energy.
