Winston-Salem Dash News Release
SALEM, VA (MAY 26, 2010) - Salem scored two runs in the eighth inning off Dan Remenowsky to snap a 1-1 tie and beat the Dash 3-1 on Wednesday night at Lewis-Gale Field. Peter Hissey's RBI triple put the Red Sox into the lead and Salem evened the three-game series at a game apiece.
Much like the night before, this was a pitcher's duel throughout. Starters Nevin Griffith and Alex Wilson were outstanding, keeping both offenses off-balance early in the contest.
The Red Sox (27-19) got to Griffith in the fifth inning for the game's first run. Tim Federowicz doubled with one out and then scored two batters later on Mitch Dening's RBI double to put Salem on top 1-0.
The Dash (32-14) could not get anything resembling a threat against Wilson, so the offense waited to get to work until he left the game after six scoreless innings. Michael Lee (3-3) relieved Wilson in the seventh and walked Eduardo Escobar to start his outing. He then struck out before surrendering an RBI double to Ozzie Lewis, tying the game at one. Lewis took too big of a turn at second base and was caught off the bag on the relay to end the inning, depriving Winston-Salem of a chance to take the lead.
It stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth. Remenowsky allowed a one-out single to Salem's number-nine batter, Luis Segovia, and then gave up an RBI triple to Hissey to put the Red Sox ahead 2-1. Hissey scored on Oscar Tejeda's sacrifice fly, giving Salem an insurance run.
Lee mowed down Winston in the ninth in order to secure the win for the home team. In doing so, he collected a victory for himself with his three innings of work.
Remenowsky (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in one inning.
Griffith did not get a decision, but pitched very well. He gave up one run in six innings, scattering three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Both of the Dash's starters in this series have allowed only three hits through six innings of work.
Ozzie Lewis was the lone offensive bright spot for Winston-Salem. He went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Luis Sierra was the only other Dash player to pick up a hit.
The two teams play the rubber-game their three-game series on Thursday night. RHP Stephen Sauer (4-1, 5.08) looks to win his fourth consecutive start against Salem RHP Stolmy Pimentel (4-2, 4.28). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can tune into the webcast at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
The Dash returns to BB&T Ballpark on June 3 for a four-game series against the Kinston Indians.
