Notes: The Snappers used two, three-run innings to take care of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 6-5, in game one of a four-game series Monday night. All-Star reliever Steven Hirschfeld picked up his team-leading, fifth win of the season, striking out two Kernels.

The Snappers got going early with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Greg Yersich slapped a bases loaded, two-run single to right with no outs and was followed by a Joe Benson sac fly to center one batter later. Yersich and Benson'sRBI put the Snappers ahead 3-0 after two innings.

Cedar Rapids then stormed back and scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to tie the game up at 3-3 after five and a half.

The class low A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angles then put two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Kernels got their two runs on back-to-back RBI-doubles from Hector Estrella and Gordie Gronkowski.

With their second three-run inning of the night, the Snaps took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Benson and Ben Revere were able to score on a Chris Cates sacrifice bunt combined with a Michael Davitt throwing error. Cates laid a perfect bunt down the third base line that Davitt proceeded to pick up and throw towards the Kernels first base bullpen, tying the game at 5-5.

Garrett Olson then put the Snaps ahead with a sac fly to right, scoring Cates from third and giving Beloit a 6-5 lead.

A combination of Loek Van Mil and Matt Williams held on to close the door on Cedar Rapids and give the Snappers the 6-5 victory.

Ben Revere and Steve Singleton, both all-star selections, had three hits apiece for the Snappers, who improved to 34-30 on the year.
