Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit's Matt Williams was added to the Western Division All-Star Team today due to an injury sustained by another player. Williams will join seven other Snappers in the 44th annual mid-season classic at the Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan, home of the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday, June 17th.
Matt Williams signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Twins on February 18th, 2004. Williams signed with Minnesota after attending St. Gregory's College in Camden, NSW, Australia.
So far this season, Matt is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched. The right-hander from Australia also has 40 strikeouts compared to just 12 walks. Opponents are batting just .199 against Williams in '08.
The 2008 All-Stars were nominated and selected by the 14 managers in the Midwest League. The Field Staffs for the All-Star Game will be from the teams that are in first place in their respective division at the end of the first half.
