Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (June 9, 2008) - The Burlington Bees opened up their final home series before the All-Star break with a 6-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Monday night at Community Field. The Bees scored four runs in the first and two in the second and that was all they needed for the victory.
It was a very good start for the Bess. Adrian Ortiz led the inning off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a balk. Wisconsin starting pitcher Philiipe Aumont then recorded two outs without allowing Ortiz to score from third. With Jason Taylor at the plate, and two strikes in the count, Taylor laced a homerun over the wall in left field to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. Clint Robinson and Nick Van Stretten then each singled and scored on RBI singles by Zach Evangelho and Juan Rivera.
The Bees allowed two runs in the top of the second but were able to answer them in the bottom of the inning. Mike Moustakas and Jason Taylor each walked with two outs in the inning and then scored on a Robinson double. All six runs that the Bees scored came with two outs.
Wisconsin scored a run in both the seventh and ninth innings but the Bees were able to hold on for the win. Danny Duffy got the start for the Bees and was very good. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work. He picked up his second consecutive win and is now 2-2 on the season. Juan Abreu pitched four innings allowing two runs, only one of which was earned, to pick up his second save of the season.
Evangelho led the team with three hits. Robinson and Van Stretten each had two hits on the night. Taylor and Robinson each recorded two RBI.
The Bees and Wisconsin continue the series Tuesday night at Community Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 with Eduardo Paulino taking the mound for the Bees. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com
