Late Rally Spoils IronBirds Home Opener

The Aberdeen IronBirds fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades in the home season opener Wednesday night, 5-3. Entering the top of the ninth with the game tied at three, the Renegades scored two runs against LHP Enrico Jimenez.

The Renegades took the lead early on in the game, scoring in the second and third innings. Following a line-drive double by Justin O'Conner, Leonardo Reginatto brought in the first run of the night for Hudson Valley. The Renegades continued to advance in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs against starting pitcher Jorge Rivera. Joel Caminero doubled to left-field allowing RF Charles Epperson and 1B Michael Williams to score.

The IronBirds tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth earning three runs off of relief pitcher, Rob Finneran. LF Will Howard started the rally off with a double sent to center field. After a hit by Roderick Bernadina, Howard brought in the first run of the game for Aberdeen. Orioles eighth-round pick Torsten Boss picked up his fourth RBI of the season with a groundball to center field, allowing Jerome Pena to round third and score easily. Doug Bream was hit by pitch, bringing in the tying run, Bernadina to home plate.

During the top of the eighth SS Joel Hutter made his second throw of the night to home plate, preventing the Renegades from sliding to a scoring run. C Pedro Perez held onto the ball to tag out O'Conner at home base. With two outs and two on relief pitcher, Jimenez held Hudson Valley to a scoreless inning but it wasn't enough to top Hudson Valley.

The Renegades regained the lead in the top of the ninth and pulled away putting two unanswered runs on the board. CF Joel Caminero sent a double to left field, allowing Tommy Coyle and Charles Epperson to earn the final runs and ending with a score of 5-3.

Enrico Jimenez picked up the loss out of the Birds bullpen while Marcus Jensen notched his first win of the year for the Renegades.
