
Spinners Spoil Home Opener

NORWICH- The Lowell Spinners (2-1) opened the home portion of the 2012 season for the Connecticut Tigers (1-2) by scoring 11 runs on 12 hits for an 11-5 win before 3,712 fans at Dodd Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Spinners scored four runs on four hits in the first inning against Connecticut starting pitcher Endrys Briceno (0-1). RF Kendrick Perkins (3-5) and CF Williams Jerez (1-4) hit RBI singles to give Lowell a 4-0 lead.
1B David Chester (2-4) hit a solo home run over the center field wall in the third inning to make it 5-0.
LF Seth Schwindenhammer (1-4) hit a two-run home run to highlight a five-run fourth inning and increase the Lowell lead to 10-0.
The Tigers scored two runs in the fourth inning. LF Danry Vasquez (3-4) walked and DH Zach Kirksey (1-4) was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced to third base on a wild pitch by Lowell starting pitcher Jacob Dahlstrand. CF Patrick Smith (0-3) walked to load the bases.
C Benett Pickar (0-1) earned a walk to score Vasquez from third base and 2B Jordan Dean (1-3) singled home Kirksey to bring the score to 10-2.
The Tigers scored two runs in the eighth inning. RF Jeff McVaney (2-4) reached base on a one-out walk and moved to second base on a single by Vasquez. Kirksey hit an RBI single to score McVaney and make it 10-3.
The Tigers and Spinners finish their two-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
The Tigers will hand out magnet schedules sponsored by Hartford Hospital/Life Star to all fans in attendance. RHP Raynel Velette (0-0, 0.00) start for the Lowell Spinners against RHP Charles Gillies (0-0, 0.00) for Connecticut. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
