Leading 3-0 the Calgary Vipers gave up eight runs in the final four innings for a 8-6 defeat at the hands of the Victoria Seals before 2492 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After retiring ten straight batters and giving up only one hit in the first five innings starter Jay Broughton (2-2) gave up four runs in the sixth inning for the loss. The bullpen behind the starter combined to walk five batters and give up four more runs in three and a third innings. With the loss the Vipers drop to 12-6 on the Golden Baseball League season and fall to two and a half games back in the North Division.

At the plate Guillermo Reyes knocked in four runs while Jonny Kaplan scored three times.

Calgary scored first in the bottom of the third inning as Kaplan doubled, pitcher Broughton sacrifice bunted Kaplan to third base, and Reyes drove in the run for a 1-0 lead with a productive groundball.

The Vipers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as Luis Taveras walked, Kaplan singled, Broughton again laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position, and Reyes doubled in both runners for a 3-0 advantage.

Victoria responded in the top of the sixth inning when Chris Van Rossum walked, Dale Swinford singled, Wilver Perez walked to load the bases, Colin Moro blooped a doubled for two runs batted in, Terrence McClain grounded out for a RBI, and Brian Rios gave his team a 4-3 lead with a two-out RBI single.

The Seals added a run to their lead in the seventh as Shane Cronin singled, Van Rossum walked, pitcher Jason Kershner bunted into a double play, and Swinford drove in one with a base hit for a 5-3 advantage.

In the top of the eighth frame Victoria scored again when Moro walked, McClain and Rios singled, Moro scored on a throwing error, Josh Arhart walked to load the bases, and Cronin hit a sacrifice fly for a 7-3 score.

Calgary got back within two runs at 7-5 in the bottom of the inning as Matt Edgecombe and Kaplan walked, Dillon O'Krane singled to load the bases, Reyes hit a sacrifice fly, and Mejia plated a tally with a single.

Victoria added a run in the top of the ninth when Swinford walked, Perez sacrificed him to second base, and Moro drove him in with a base hit for a 8-5 lead.

In the bottom of the frame Drew Miller extended his on-base streak to 18 games with a solo home run for a 8-6 final.

This two-game series against Calgary native Colin Moro and the Victoria Seals concludes on Sunday June 12th at 1:35 PM.
