Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA) The Outlaws came to play early on Friday night in Chico, beating the Yuma Scorpions 8-1 behind a great starting effort from Garret Holleran (3-1) and more offense from the "Chico Lumber Company". The game was the first of a quick two-game set at Nettleton Stadium and pitted the top teams from the Golden Baseball League's two divisions against each other.
And for the fourth straight night, the Outlaws received a quality start from thier pitching staff. Holleran pitched splendidly, going six innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits, striking out three Scorpions along the way.
Center fielder Blake Gailen got the ball rolling in the bottom of the first inning off Yuma starter Bill Pulsipher (2-2) with a solo blast to make the score 1-0 on his third homerun of the year. First baseman Rich Janeway then crushed a solo shot of his own to right in the bottom of the second inning, increasing the lead to 2-0.
Chico put up four runs in the fourth inning off Pulsipher. Janeway led off the inning with a single and reached second on a passed ball. One batter later, Holleran got in the act with an RBI single that got past a drawn-in infield into center field, scoring Janeway. After Gailen doubled, Pulshipher intentionally walked Bobby Hill to load the bases. JJ Sherrill then hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Holleran. The next batter up, right fielder Mitch Einertson, stroked a two-out double to plate both Gailen and Hill, making the score 6-0.
The Scorpions got their only run in the top of the sixth frame when Ron Perodin hit a leadoff triple off Holleran. Left fielder Masjid Khairy then hit an RBI groundout to score Perodin from third, making the score 6-1 at that point.
Two more runs came in for the Outlaws in the bottom of the sixth when Einertson cranked a two-run homerun out of the Nett off Pulshiper for an 8-1 Outlaws lead. Einertson was 4-5 with a homerun, double and four RBI's in the game and the team has had 10 plus hits in its last four games.
Josh Dew relieved Holleran and fanned five batters over two innings and Matt Perisho pitched the ninth for Chico to finish the game.
With the win, the Outlaws win their third consecutive game and move to 15-4 on the year, while the Scorpions fall to 14-6.
Japanese knuckleballer Eri Yoshida starts on Saturday night in the series finale against Yuma, facing leftie Gilbert Del La Vara, who is 3-0, 0.86 ERA on the year. Yoshida has no record on the season and will make her second start of the year after making baseball history in her debut on May 29th against Tijuana when she became the first woman to ever pitch professionally in two countries. Game time is set for 7:05 pm at the Nett.
Saturday night is also Eri Yoshida Autographed Picture Night, along with Outlaws Team Picture Night, presented by Lifetouch Photography. The first 1000 fans through the gate get both pictures and Outlaws players will be available from 6:00 - 6:30 pm to sign the team picture before the game.
Saturday's game will be also broadcast live on Justin.TV. Fans can watch/listen to the game live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball and hear the game on www.chicooutlaws.com or 107.3 FM at the ballpark as Dan Hawkins brings you Outlaws baseball live.
