Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals three game winning streak came to a sudden halt on Safeway Fireworks Friday. Orange County racked up eleven hits and eight runs in the first few innings and cruised to a 14 - 2 victory at TELUS Field in front of one of the largest Capitals crowds this season. Most of the 2,253 fans stayed right to the end of what turned out to be the best weather day of the season so far for the Caps. The hosts delivered with another crowd-pleasing fireworks display after the game.
It was the Flyers bats that came alive and lit up the scoreboard early. Edmonton starter Evan White only lasted three and a third innings giving up eight runs on eleven hits. It was definitely not a game to remember. "There's just not anything you can really say about a night like tonight," deadpanned Capitals Field Manager Brent Bowers. "That's the great thing about baseball, you're playing every day and it doesn't take long to forget about a game like that. I expect our team to rebound Saturday night."
After White left in the fourth, it didn't get any better for Capitals pitchers as the Flyers continued to pound away, scoring another run in the fifth, four in the sixth and one more in the ninth. It was more than enough support for Orange County starter and former Major Leaguer Byung Hyun-Kim. The side-arm right hander gave up only two runs and six hits through six innings in his best outing of the season, while helping out his own cause at the plate with two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
In tomorrow's series finale the Capitals will send Alexander Francisco (1 - 0) to the mound and try to take four of five from the Flyers. Francisco will face Manny Ayala, who is a perfect 3 - 0 on the season. Expected temperature at start time is expected in the low twenties. It should be a great night to watch the game and then enjoy the EZ Rock Saturday night movie afterwards. This week's movie is Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner.
On Monday, the Capitals begin a three game set with the Victoria Seals. It will be the first Carpool Monday of the year at Telus Field. Fans coming to the game can park for free with four or more people in the vehicle (based on availability). Game time is 7pm.
The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capitals season seats start at under $9 per game and individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the Telus Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
