Asheville Tourists News Release
SALISBURY - The Asheville Tourists jumped out to a quick start on Friday night but found themselves in a big hole against the Delmarva Shorebirds with only two innings to play. Asheville nearly overcame a four-run deficit; however, the team came up one run short of extending the game.
Trailing 6-2 entering the eighth, the Tourists rallied for a pair of runs that included a Casey Golden RBI single and a Sean Bouchard RBI fielder's choice. Bret Boswell led off the ninth inning with a solo Home Run that cut the deficit to one. After a pair of walks put the tying and go-ahead runs aboard, Golden worked a lengthy at-bat that unfortunately ended in a game-ending strikeout.
Asheville built a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Golden plated Ryan Vilade with an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch. Delmarva answered with a run in the second and two more in the third. The Shorebirds added to their lead with a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
The Tourists offense struggled in the middle innings but came alive late. Vilade finished 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Golden finished 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
On the pitching side, Breiling Eusebio lasted 4.2 innings and surrendered four runs on seven hits. Nick Kennedy entered in the fifth inning and helped the Tourists escape a tough jam. Robert Tyler made his first appearance since 2016 and tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
Kervin Moesquit finished 4-for-5 for Delmarva. Moesquit added four stolen bases and two runs scored. Cameron Bishop tossed six innings of two-run ball for the Shorebirds and picked up the win. Zach Jarrett, whose grandfather Ned Jarrett used to race at McCormick Speedway in the 1950's, hit a solo Home Run for the Shorebirds and finished with two hits.
Asheville will search for their first win on the season on Saturday night as they once again take on Delmarva. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
