Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - Another strong pitching performance by the Rome staff leads the Braves to a 3-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns Friday night before a crowd of 2,472.
Rome grabbed an early run in the first inning on Drew Lugbauer's RBI groundout making it a 1-0 game. In the fourth, Rome notched two more runs highlighted by Jean Carlos Encarnacion's run scoring base hit and Riley Delgado's groundout to score the third run of the game for the 3-0 score. Hagerstown scratched the scoreboard in the sixth when Juan Soto hit in to a double play to plate a run but that's as close as the Suns would get as Rome's pitching held on for the 3-1 final.
Rome starter JaJasseel De La Cruz (1-0) pitched five no run, no hit innings while striking out eight en route to his first win of the season. The Braves bullpen provided excellent relief allowing just one unearned run and two hits. Brandon White earns his first save while Hagerstown's Nick Raquet (0 -1) is tagged with the loss. Rome no-hit Hagerstown for seven innings and has not allowed an earned run in the last 17 innings. Braves pitching struck out 13 Hagerstown hitters in the game.
Game three of the series is Saturday at 6 p.m. with fireworks following the game. For information contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
