Late Powerplay Goal Buries \'Bugs

Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Judd Blackwater scored a powerplay goal with only 1:24 left in regulation as the Allen Americans knocked off the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-3 Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. A late empty-net goal then sealed Allen's second win over the Mudbugs in as many nights.

Jeff Martens scored a pair of goals for Bossier-Shreveport, with Jeff Kyrzakos notching the other. In his first Mudbugs start since 2006, goaltender David Cacciola came out of retirement to make 20 saves as the ‘Bugs dropped to 3-2 on the season.

The Mudbugs opened the scoring mid-way through the first period with a powerplay goal as Jeff Kyrzakos buried the rebound of Jamie Milam's shot at 9:32. Allen countered just 47 seconds later with a powerplay goal of its own from Nino Musitelli, who one-timed Brue Graham's pass by Cacciola. Bossier-Shreveport went back on top later in the first with a beautiful powerplay goal by Martens. Pinpoint passing from all five Mudbugs on the ice helped Martens bang in a centering feed from Justin Aikins and the ‘Bugs led 2-1 after one.

The Mudbugs dominated the second frame, but couldn't beat Adrien LeMay despite a 15-6 shot advantage in the period. The Americans finally took advantage of their goaltender's play halfway through the third when Justin DaCosta tied the game at two and then Tobias Whelan gave them the lead about six minutes later. Only seconds after the Allen goal however, Martens stole a puck in the Americans' zone and beat LeMay over the left shoulder to tie it up again.

With the game knotted at three in the closing minutes, Blackwater's powerplay game-winner was set up by a late tripping call to Dave Pszenyczny with less than two minutes left. Jarret Lukin's empty-netter then iced the 5-3 win for Allen.

Playing in his first pro hockey game since 2009, David Cacciola took the loss despite making a number of key saves. Adrien LeMay's 31 saves were the difference in the game as the Mudbugs finished with a 34-25 shot advantage. Bossier-Shreveport scored twice on eight powerplay chances, while Allen finished 2 for 5.

The ‘Bugs will now head to North Richland Hills, Texas to face the rival Texas Brahmas tomorrow night at 7:30 pm in their sixth game in the past nine days. Live radio coverage can be heard on News Radio 710 AM KEEL or online at www.710keel.com. The game will also be shown live on CHL-TV.
