Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - Welcome to Erie, head coach Stan Butler! Saturday night would welcome the storied Ontario Hockey League coach in for his first game behind the bench for the Erie Otters. Coach Butler's first game as the Otters' bench boss would come in one of the most highly anticipated games of the second half for Erie - the final home game against the London Knights. After picking up a point in Thursday morning's contest against the Guelph Storm, the Otters pursuits of the final playoff spots in the OHL's Western Conference come closer. Erie would continue to go with the hot-glove in net, as Nolan Lalonde would make his fourth-consecutive start.

With a packed house at the Erie Insurance Arena, it would be London's first shot of the game that would make for the first goal of the night. Easton Cowan (13) would shoot right while skating left, and give London an early 1-0 lead. Erie would continue to fight hard throughout the period, and finally be rewarded with a goal just past the halfway mark of the first period. The goal would come shorthanded for Erie, as Pano Fimis would force a turnover, and Noah Sedore (14) would finish it off for his third-straight game with a goal. After 20 minutes of play, all would be even-keel with a 1-1 game, and shots knotted at 8-8.

Not much would be different in period two, as the two teams would continue to play incredibly close and similar brands of hockey. Erie would lead in the shots category 11-8 after the second 20 minutes, but it would be the London Knights who would be rewarded with the only goal of the period. With the Otters on the power play, a chip out of the zone would lead to a breakaway for Sean McGurn (19) with just over two minutes remaining to put London ahead 2-1. Erie would lead in shots 19-16 after 40.

In the third period, the London Knights would takeover as the Erie Otters would run into penalty trouble. In a span of under 10 minutes, Logan Mailloux (15,16,17) would score an all-power play natural hat trick to power the Knights to a third-period-dominant 5-1 victory over the Otters. London would outshoot Erie 13-6 enroute to the win.

Saturday night was the second sellout of the season for Erie, as 6509 fans loaded into the Erie Insurance Arena. Immediately following the game, the Erie Otters loaded the bus to head north to Oshawa, in preparation for a Sunday evening contest against the Generals. Sunday's game represents the first of eight-straight games on the road for the Otters, as the team prepares for Saginaw on Wednesday and the final game against London on Friday.
