
Spitfires Double Up Bulldogs 6-3

WINDSOR, ON. - The Spitfires were victorious over the defending OHL Champion Bulldogs on Saturday night. Goals from rookies Cristoforo and Greentree ignited a 6-3 win.
In the first period, the Spitfires dictated the pace as they hammered Hamilton with 17 shots to their 8. Just over three minutes into the game, it was the rookie blueliner Cristoforo scoring his 6th for the games first goal. Assists went to Dionicio and Peer. Just seven minutes later, the Spitfires were on the powerplay when another rookie in Liam Greentree scored his 21st on the season on a scramble in front. The Spits were up 2-0 at the break.
In the second frame, it was Colton Smith scoring on the powerplay to make it 3-0 just over 5 minutes into the period. The Bulldogs responded with two goals of their own, one being on the powerplay and we had ourselves a 3-2 game with over 10 minutes to play in the period. With just 4 minutes left in the period, Captain Maggio skated up the ice and ripped his 38th of the season with a wicked shot to restore the two goal lead. The Spitfires led 4-2 after 40 minutes of play on the scoreboard and had a 29-14 shot advantage.
In the third period, it was a battle. The Bulldogs scored on the powerplay just under 4 minutes left in the game to make it a 4-3 game. Just 21 seconds later the rookie Greentree scored his 2nd of the night to make it 5-3. To seal the game, Maggio scored into the empty net. The Spitfires would beat the Bulldogs by a score of 6-3.
The Spitfires are back in action on Sunday February 5th for YourTV Hockey day in the OHL. The Spitfires will faceoff against the Owen Sound Attack with puck drop at 7:00pm.
