Late Patriots Rally Falls Short in 6-5 Loss to Skeeters

Bridgewater, NJ - The Sugar Land Skeeters (16-9) held off the Somerset Patriots (15-8) to win 6-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Edwin Espinal.

The Skeeters answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Juan Silverio and an RBI double by Cody Stanley for a 3-1 advantage.

A pair of two-run home runs in the top of the seventh inning by Jason Martinson (2) and Silverio (3) extended the Skeeters' lead to 6-1.

Somerset got their second run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI fielder's choice by Craig Massey.

Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Ramon Flores plated three runs on a bases loaded double. Somerset had the tying run on second, but the Skeeters were able to escape the inning for the 6-5 victory.

Michael Mariot (1-0) picked up the win, allowing a run on four hits and five strikeouts in six innings pitched. Thomas Dorminy (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in five innings pitched. Felipe Paulino came in for the final out to record his seventh save of the season.

The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a day-night doubleheader against the Sugar Land Skeeters at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, May 22nd. The first game is at 11:05 am and features STEM In Baseball presented by Sanofi. The evening game is set for 6:35 pm.
