Norfolk Tides News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fl - The Norfolk Tides (9-12) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (12-9), 8-4, on Sunday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. The game was tied 4-4 in the sixth, but late offense put Jacksonville over the top.

The offense from Saturday night carried over to this afternoon for the Tides, when Ryan McKenna blasted a two-run home run in the second inning. Jacksonville jumped right back with three runs in the bottom-half, however. Marty Costes broke the shutout with an RBI single. Victor Mesa Jr. tied the game on his own RBI single. They took the lead when Troy Johnton knocked in Costes on a single to put the Jumbo Shrimp up, 3-2.

Tristan Gray led the bottom of the third off with a solo home run to put Jacksonville up, 4-2. That would be the last run earned by Tides starter Kyle Bradish, who was making his second MLB rehab appearance of 2024. He finished his night after 3.1 innings, allowing the four runs on six hits (one home run) and three walks while striking out four. He threw 64 pitches, 37 for strikes.

Norfolk managed to tie the game in the top of the fifth with two runs. Kyle Stowers knocked in the first run on an RBI groundout. He was followed by Peyton Burdick, who ripped an RBI double to put the game at 4-4.

Chayce McDermott followed Bradish for a long relief outing. He ended up tossing 3.2 innings himself, giving up three unearned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven. The three runs came in the sixth when the Jumbo Shrimp capitalized on an error. Dane Myers knocked the first run in on an RBI single, followed by a two-run double by Costes to go up 7-4.

Costes capped his hot night for Jacksonville with a solo home run in the eighth. Anthony Maldonado came in to close the game for the Jumbo Shrimp, sealing the 8-4 victory.

After a scheduled day off tomorrow, the Tides are set to host the Gwinnett Stripers for a six-game set at Harbor Park starting Tuesday night. The Tides have not announced their probables for the week, while the Stripers will have RHP Allan Winans (1-1, 1.86) on the hill.
