Eight-Run Third Inning Leads Iowa over Louisville

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (13-8) put eight runs on the board in the third inning to lead them to an 11-3 victory over the Louisville Bats (9-12) today in the series finale at Principal Park. Iowa took four of the six games vs. Louisville.
The I-Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run from Matt Mervis. Iowa infielder Jake Slaughter got the scoring started in the third inning with a two-run homer. Owen Caissie, Darius Hill and Ali Sánchez all brought in runs with doubles, B.J. Murray Jr. singled home another and Curt Casali scored on a wild pitching giving Iowa a 9-0 advantage.
Louisville fought back in the fourth on a run-scoring single from Austin Wynns and a two-run double from Hernán Pérez to cut the I-Cubs lead to 9-3.
In the seventh, Iowa added two more runs as Murray Jr. scored on an error and Pete Crow-Armstrong brought in a run on an error, putting the I-Cubs ahead 11-3.
Iowa's starter Thomas Pannone earned his third win of the season and allowed three runs across 5.0 innings. Porter Hodge, Edwin Escobar and Jose Cuas combined for 4.0 scoreless innings in relief.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Iowa's eight runs in the third inning were the most they have scored in an inning this season.
- BJ Murray Jr. has reached base safely in seven straight games, batting .417 (10-for-24) during that span.
